Palo for OpenOffice

Palo for OpenOffice expands OpenOffice spreadsheet with the functions of the Palo Server, a multidimensional OLAP database.

With the quick installation and a simple dialog-oriented user interface users are quickly able to create optimal conditions for well-structured planning and analysis systems.

Palo for OpenOffice - without large IT effort - is a functional framework for conceptual work to create consistent data.

Features

Palo for OpenOffice offers read/write access to the data of the Palo OLAP server. Olap databases, cubes and dimensions can be created and edited, as well as users and user rights management may be edited. The Palo Server is also administered here in a simple way by dialogue.

To access data values within the spreadsheet cells on a worksheet from the Palo server formulas are used. The formulas even enables write back functionality.

The easiest way to get content from the Palo Server cube is called View, which can be added via an easy dialogl. All relevant formulas are copied automatically to the OpenOffice spreadsheet.

The control of the PlugIn within the OpenOffice.org Calc is done via the menu item "Palo", which is inserted into the OpenOffice Calc menu at the start of the extension.Palo for OpenOffice supports OpenOffice version from version 2.5 on.

Palo for Palo uses the OpenOffice Java API to communicate with Palo.

Create view

This option allows to insert views of Palo Cubes into a OpenOffice Calc spreadsheet. With the selection of a database and a cube from the Palo Server you can select dimensions to use as a filter and for displaying them in rows and columns. The generated worksheet report is interactive. A double click on a filter elements opens a dialog for selecting an element as a filter. A double click on a row- or column element expands or folds the hierarchy of this element, if it is a consolidated element. 

Paste elements

To create an individual report sheet elements from dimensions are pasted vertically or horizontally as a heading from the Palo server onto the worksheet.

Paste function

The data formula "PALO.DATA (...)" is pasted to the spreadsheet to access the values from the Palo Server. The parameters of the function are, e. g. the dimension members that are used as headings. The checkbox "Guess parameter" arranges the parameters for the function to in a simple manner.

Share OpenOffice reports - Snapshot

To share a report with an recipient that has no access to the appropriate Palo Server database - it is possible to "create snapshot" function from the dynamic Open Office Report to paste fixed values into the report and create thus a static report.
